Thanks Augusta-Richmond County (NOT)
6-22-2023. So this is the state, or rather County, of things on Blackberry Ln in Augusta GA today . This has been an ongoing issue since 2008, if not before. Over 1 month ago pictures were sent then to Richmond County 311 to address clogged drain pipes in ditches. These pipes overflow and flood not just our Farm, creating a health risk for our animals, but also causing trenches across the road. These trenches, when formed from one side to the other, make the road impossible to navigate without a 4 wheel drive vehicle, cause issues for US mail carriers and emergency vehicles.
This happens with even the slightest rain. What does Richmond County say or do? Sent employees out over a month ago, though closer to two months We were told pipes would be cleared. They never were. 1 week later- more rain. More flooding. Sent pictures again. No response. Called left message no one called. 2 days later called again. Had to leave another message, this time demanding someone return call as message staes will receive a call by the end of the day. Guess what? Received a call back. recounted the contact from prior employee when he came out. This time, on phone was told same response as at least 100 times before, "it has been sent to Engineering Dept. but there is no time frame on a resolution or even to have the pipes cleared."
WOW! What are we, as taxpayers, supposed to do? Will Richmond County ever do something to prevent property damages or harm to our animals?
Several years ago, a County representative showed up with a Notary Public. Went to each resident on the road and wanted each resident to sign over 1, yes, 1 entire acre across the front of each property in order to pave the road with blacktop and put in pipes down all the ditches and not just driveways. So why does it take the equivalent of 1 acre from each when there is already a road here more than 20 feet wide plus ditches and a right of way along the side of the road on either side.
I am no Engineer but "something is rotten" here in Augusta-Richmond County and not Denmark. This was the only reason many residents would not agree to this solution. Maybe Engineering made an error in their calculations, but no one ever came back with answers. So ... Here we all (the residents and taxpayers) are still. A constant battle.
